BeforeTheyGo Privacy Policy

BeforeTheyGo is a private reflection and memory-capture app operated by Hamza Mhaidy ("BeforeTheyGo," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information when you use the BeforeTheyGo mobile app, website, and related services.

This policy is intended to describe our privacy practices clearly. It is not a substitute for legal advice.

1. Who This App Is For

BeforeTheyGo is intended for adults age 18 and older. It is not directed to children and is not intended for the App Store Kids Category.

The app helps users reflect on relationships with parents or loved ones through prompts, written reflections, audio recordings, photos, and videos. Because these memories may include other people, you are responsible for getting appropriate consent before recording, photographing, filming, uploading, or sharing another person's voice, image, words, or personal information.

2. Personal Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, information generated through your use of the app, and limited technical information needed to operate the service.

Account and Authentication Information

Depending on how you sign in, we may process:

  • Email address and password-authentication information when you use email sign-in.
  • Apple or Google authentication identifiers when you use Sign in with Apple or Google sign-in through Supabase.
  • A Supabase account user ID.
  • Session and authentication tokens needed to keep you signed in.

Profile and Personalization Information

We may collect:

  • Selected parent target, such as mom, dad, or both parents.
  • Parent names, emojis, and optional parent photos.
  • Your onboarding answers and welcome answer.
  • Saved prompt IDs, recently seen prompt IDs, moment totals, milestones, pinned items, and app preferences such as Wi-Fi-only upload preference.

Reflection and Memory Content

BeforeTheyGo is designed around personal user content. We may collect:

  • Written reflections and custom prompt text.
  • Emotion selections, categories, completion dates, and journal metadata.
  • Audio recordings.
  • Photos and videos.
  • Video thumbnails, photo thumbnails, captions, file metadata, duration, storage paths, and sync status.

This content may be sensitive depending on what you choose to write, record, photograph, or upload.

Purchase and Subscription Information

We use RevenueCat and Apple's App Store / StoreKit infrastructure to support subscriptions and purchase restoration. We may process subscription status and related purchase metadata, such as product ID, entitlement status, purchase date, expiration date, cancellation status, RevenueCat app user ID, and App Store environment. We do not receive your full payment card number.

Device, Log, and Technical Information

We may process limited technical information needed for security, debugging, reliability, sync, storage, and service operation, such as:

  • Server logs and request metadata processed by Supabase or our backend functions.
  • Device or app technical information made available through the iOS app, Supabase, RevenueCat, or Apple services.
  • Error information related to authentication, sync, uploads, subscriptions, and account deletion.

We do not currently use analytics tools, advertising tools, tracking pixels, retargeting, IDFA-based tracking, or cross-app tracking.

Support Communications

If you contact us, we may collect your email address, message contents, attachments, and any information needed to respond to your request.

3. Information We Do Not Intentionally Collect

We do not intentionally collect:

  • Precise location.
  • Contacts or address book data.
  • Advertising identifiers for tracking.
  • Data for third-party advertising.
  • Data for sale to data brokers.
  • Children's data.

You may choose to include sensitive information in reflections, recordings, photos, videos, or support messages. Please only include information you are comfortable storing in the app and, when sync is enabled, transmitting to our service providers.

4. How We Use Personal Information

We use personal information to:

  • Create, authenticate, and manage your account.
  • Provide the app's reflection, journal, prompt, media, export, sync, and account features.
  • Store and sync your reflections, parent profile details, audio, photos, videos, thumbnails, and app state.
  • Personalize prompts and app content based on your selected parent target, saved prompts, and previous activity.
  • Provide subscription access, purchase restoration, and premium entitlement checks.
  • Let you export and download your data.
  • Let you delete your account and synced cloud data.
  • Provide customer support.
  • Protect the service, troubleshoot bugs, maintain reliability, and prevent misuse.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights.

We do not use your personal information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

5. Legal Bases for Processing

Where laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply, our legal bases may include:

  • Performance of a contract: to provide the app, account, sync, media, export, subscription, and support features you request.
  • Consent: where you choose to provide optional content, grant device permissions, or submit information to us.
  • Legitimate interests: to secure, debug, maintain, and improve the app and related services, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligations: to comply with applicable law, app platform requirements, accounting, tax, dispute, or safety obligations.

6. How We Share Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We may disclose personal information to the following categories of recipients:

  • Supabase: authentication, database, storage, backend functions, logs, and cloud infrastructure.
  • RevenueCat: subscription entitlement management, purchase restoration, subscription status, and related purchase metadata.
  • Apple: App Store purchases, StoreKit, subscription management, Sign in with Apple, and app platform services.
  • Google: Google sign-in, if you choose that sign-in method.
  • Service providers and authorized personnel: only as needed to operate, secure, support, debug, or maintain BeforeTheyGo.
  • Legal and safety recipients: if required by law, legal process, enforcement of rights, security, fraud prevention, or protection of users or others.
  • Business transfer recipients: if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate protections.

Third-party services process information according to their own terms and privacy policies. We encourage you to review their privacy practices.

7. Device Permissions

BeforeTheyGo may request access to device features only when needed for app functionality:

  • Camera: to capture photos or videos for memories.
  • Microphone: to record audio memories.
  • Photo library or media picker: to select or save captured memories where supported.

You can manage permissions in iOS Settings. If you disable a permission, related features may not work.

8. Local Storage and Cloud Sync

BeforeTheyGo stores some data locally on your device, including app configuration, reflections, artifact metadata, and media files. When you are signed in and the app syncs, account data and user content may also be uploaded to Supabase so it can be backed up, restored, and used across authenticated sessions.

If you export your data, the app creates a local archive containing your reflections and media files. You control where that exported archive is saved or shared after it leaves the app.

9. Retention and Deletion

We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide the app, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and operate secure and reliable services.

When a signed-in user confirms account deletion in the app, BeforeTheyGo immediately attempts to delete the user's Supabase account and synced cloud data, including synced reflections, parent profile details, photos, videos, audio, thumbnails, and related app data. Apple subscription billing and certain subscription records are managed separately by Apple and RevenueCat.

Deleted database records may remain temporarily in Supabase backups for the backup retention period of our Supabase plan. Server logs are retained according to our Supabase logging plan and are used for security, debugging, and reliability. Support emails are retained only as long as needed to resolve the request and for legal or business record purposes. Subscription and billing records are managed separately by Apple and RevenueCat.

Deleting the app from your device may remove local data from that device, but it may not delete synced cloud data. To delete synced cloud data, use the in-app account deletion feature or contact us at support@beforetheygo.app.

10. Your Privacy Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete personal information.
  • Export or receive a copy of your information.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
  • Appeal or complain about how a privacy request is handled.

You can use the in-app export feature to download a copy of your reflections and media. You can use the in-app account deletion feature to delete your account and synced cloud data. You can also contact support@beforetheygo.app for privacy requests.

We generally respond to privacy requests within 30 days, unless a different period is required or permitted by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

11. California Privacy Notice

If California privacy laws apply to your information, this section provides additional information.

In the preceding 12 months, we may have collected the categories of personal information described in Section 2, including identifiers, account information, user content, purchase/subscription information, internet or electronic network activity information, and support communications.

We collect and use this information for the purposes described in Section 4. We disclose information to the categories of recipients described in Section 6.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of minors.

California residents may have the right to know, access, correct, delete, and receive a copy of personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights. To exercise these rights, contact support@beforetheygo.app.

12. International Users and Transfers

BeforeTheyGo may be used from different countries. Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live, including countries that may have different data protection laws. When we use service providers such as Supabase, RevenueCat, Apple, and Google, information may be processed according to their infrastructure, contractual terms, and applicable transfer mechanisms.

13. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. These measures include HTTPS/TLS in transit, Supabase row-level security, private storage buckets, account authentication, and limiting access to authorized personnel and service providers who need access to operate, secure, or support the service.

No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. You are responsible for protecting your account credentials and device access.

14. Children's Privacy

BeforeTheyGo is intended for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact support@beforetheygo.app and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app or on our website. Your continued use of BeforeTheyGo after an update means the updated policy applies to your use of the app.
